Each module consists of an electrolyte inlet plate; cathode plate; a separator plate 1-10 cm thick; anode plate; and an electrolyte exit plate. All the plates have the same size and shape, and possess at least one hole for the flow of the electrolyte. The plates also possess side arms resting on slide bars, and are clamped together via seals and tie rods. The separator is an electric insulator, and is pref. a rectangular frame 2-6 cm thick. A hydraulic cylinder and two metal end plates are pref. employed to clamp the cell modules together while nuts on the tie rods are tightened. The modules are rigid so they resist stress due to the pressurised feeding of electrolytes through the cell; and a large cathode area is obtd. so high current yields are achieved in reclaiming e.g. Cu, Ag, Ni, or Cd.
|
