FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM FOR LARGE TWO-STROKE DIESEL ENGINE

A large two-stroke diesel engine is provided with a common rail fuel injection system that includes at least two not interconnected fuel rails. Each of the fuel rails is connected to a source of high pressure fuel. Each of the cylinders is provided with at least two fuel injection valves. One of the fuel injection valves of each cylinder is connected to one of the fuel rails and the other of the two fuel injection valves of each cylinder is connected to the other common fuel rail. Thus, a pressure loss in one of the common fuel rails will only result in a reduced fuel supply for the cylinders and engine operation can continue at a reduced power level. If the engine is used in a ship, the ship will remain maneuverable even in case of a pressure loss in one of the common fuel rails.
