The claps (1) esp. for fastening the flexible straps of handbags or rucksacks consists of two sides (2) with a fixed crosspiece (3). A clamp (6) on the end of a lever (7) is positioned at an adjustable distance from the crosspiece and presses the strap against the strap. The lever (7) is mounted by means of sideways projecting pivot pins (8) engaging the sides of the clasp. The pivot arc (S) of the clamp is at an acute angle to the surface of the free end of the strap. A press button (11) joins the lever to the other side of the pivot pin. The shortest distance between the clamp and the crosspiece is less than the strap end thickness. The clamp may have a tapered edge against the full direction of the strap.
