A vaporiser (2) can be plugged onto nozzles (4A) of an anaesthesia appliance (1). In order to enhance the safety of use, it comprises an interlock device preventing a valve (10), controlling the admission to the vaporiser of gas supplied by a source which comes with the appliance, from being actuated before a locking mechanism (6, 6A, 8) has locked the vaporiser to the appliance (7, 7A). The interlock device also comprises actuation spindles (30) which open stoppers in the nozzles only when the valve is moved into its actuation position. When two similar vaporisers are mounted side-by-side on the appliance, to be able to be used optionally, the interlock device comprises spindles (19A) which, when the valve is moved into its actuation position, are deployed outside the vaporiser in order to prevent the valve of the other vaporiser from being actuated. <IMAGE>
