<p>Regeneration of used lubricating oil is carried out by subjecting the oil to ultrafiltration and then adsorbing impurities by contact with silica having a particle size of at least 10 microns, a specific surface of at least 1 square m/g, a pore dia. of 20-3000 angstroms and a pore vol. of 0.2-2 ml-g. The treated oil has good colour and contains only traces of impurities. The silica is pref. used in an amt. of at least 0.5 (e.g.20-40)g per 100 ml of oil. It can be regenerated by eluting impurities with a solvent, pref. an alcohol, chlorinated hydrocarbon or ketone.</p> |
