The device comprises a number of cassettes (1) and a frame (25) in which the removable cassettes are pivotably held and in the rest position adopt a position tilted to the rear. The cassettes (1) are in each case composed of a container-like lower part (11) and upper part (12), which parts can be hinged apart along a pinoted edge (10) of the cassette base (2). A cassette removed from the frame (25) and hinged apart is supported on a respective standing edge (17 or 18) of the lower or upper part (11 or 12) if the cassette is put on a horizontal surface. The cassettes can also be individually hinged up by a certain amount in the suspended holding device in the frame (25). Card-like objects, for example photographs, located in the cassettes can advantageously be looked at and scrutinised by leafing through in the hinged-up cassette position. <IMAGE>
