摘要 1478048 Regulating the growth of coffee berries AMCHEM PRODUCTS Inc 7 June 1974 [22 March 1974] 12848/74 Heading ClB The ripening of coffee berries is regulated by contacting them with a ripening agent consisting of one or more alkylphosphonic acid derivatives of the general formula: (wherein R<SP>1</SP> is an unsubstituted alkyl group or an alkyl group bearing one or more hydroxy amino, halo, cyano, carboxyl or sulphonamido substituents; X is oxygen or sulphur; and R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP>, which may be the same or different are each a free or esterified hydroxyl group, a hydroxyl group salified with a metal (as defined), a free or esterified thiol group, or a substituted or unsubstituted amino group; or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> together form a cyclic ester or ester-amide grouping) and/or one or more anhydrides (as defined) thereof, said ripening agent being applied either to the berries before harvest at a time when at least 10 % of the berries on the coffee plant have matured in an amount of at least 100 mg of the compound per coffee plant or to the berries after harvesting. The process is preferably carried out when the ambient temperature is at least 60‹ F. The berries on the plant may be contacted with the reagent twice, firstly 17-18 weeks after flowering and secondly 2-3 weeks thereafter. Alternatively they may be contacted after harvesting but before depulping. The agent may be applied as a solution, emulsion or dispersion in a liquid, e.g. aqueous, medium, at the rate of 150-500 ml/plant, or to the harvested berries in a concentration of at least 1000 ppm.
