IC engine with second order counter balancing - has balance shafts and intermediate gear in bearings in main bearing gap

The ic engine with second-order weight counterbalancing has two balance shafts with balance weights on opposite sides of the crankshaft, one gear-driven directly from the latter and the other via an intermediate gear. Both balance shafts (6, 7) with their gears (10, 12) together with the intermediate gear (11) work in bearings in a bearing cap (4) for the crankshaft (2). The directly-driven balance shaft and the intermediate gear can be at the same level in the cap the other balance shaft being above the intermediate gear.
