The stop valve is particularly for a high-pressure hydraulic system, having a round valve plug working against a round seat. At the sealng area (12) the plug (8) is both round and convex-curved, while the seat is tangential to it and conical (3). Each curve radius of the plug sealing face can be > the radius of the plug whose axial length can be a multiple of that of the seat, typically six times. The plug can be ellipsoidal at the sealing area.
