摘要 401,539. Hinges for windows. WIERSMA, G. D., 14, Thyhofslaan, Almelo, and WIERSMA, D. D., 13, Berg en Boschweg, Apeldoorn, both in Holland. Feb. 9, 1933, No. 4047. Convention date, Aug. 18, 1932. [Class 65 (ii).] A casement window is provided with sliding hinges to allow it to be reversed when required for cleaning purposes, and the lower sill carries a support member adapted to co - operate with a guide in the bottom rail of the window in order to support the window during sliding movement of the hinges. The window is provided at top and bottom with hinge-plates 3 having curled socket portions 3<a> engaging with projecting pivot pins 8 fixed on grooved blocks 11 which slide on metal guide members 12 fixed on the top and bottom frame members. For normal opening of the window, the upper hinge block 11 is held in place by a pin 19. To reverse the window, it is first opened until a channel guide 26 in its lower edge engages over a support 20, shown in detail in Fig. 5 ; the pin 19 is then withdrawn, and the hinge blocks 11 are slid along their guides until they reach stops 27, the window sliding and turning on the support 20 meanwhile, and the window is then disengaged from the support and opened further about its hinges. The support member 20 comprises a ball 23 mounted in a cylindrical member 22 slidable in a base 21, the ball and member 22 being forced upwards by a spring 24 ; the member 22 is able to tilt slightly against the action of the spring to allow of engagement with, or disengagement from, the guide 26 on the window. The hinged edge of the window is shaped as shown in Fig. 2 to prevent removal from outside even if the hinges are taken off. The guides 12 are arranged to prevent penetration of water.
