A device to suck up dirt, and convey it into a container is incorporated in a vehicle for cleaning roads and other surfaces with vehicles parked on them. This comprises a suction pipe (4) made up from a series of members (8, 9), movably joined together. When at rest it is accommodated on a holding device, and for operation it is led across this to the area (12) to be cleaned below a parked vehicle. Members may be rigid, and linked by laterally rigid hinge-joints (9), with horizontal swivel axes.
