摘要 <p>A gas discharge matrix display comprises a back-plate (1) with X electrodes (20-29) and a cover plate (6) with Y electrodes (50-55). The intervening space is divided into a matrix of rectangular cells (7) aligned with the electrodes, by cell walls (4). During manufacture, the cell walls are coated with luminescent material by applying sufficient voltage to selected X and Y electrodes to ionise the air in the corresponding cells and charge their walls electrostatically. The cover plate (6) is then removed and the charge pattern 'developed' by electrophoresis from a liquid suspension or dry powder. The process is then repeated, using different X and Y electrodes, to apply a different colour to other cells. Finally, the cover plate is fixed in place, air exhausted, and the matrix filled with the working gas.</p>
