Filter element consists of a filter body with a set of openings in it formed from a set of hollow fibres. The element is formed by bonding the fibre ends by fused flowing material. The fibres then form a regular array of passages across the element. Each passage is of uniform size and the free arm of the largest opening is no more than 1.08 to 1.17 times the area of the min. passage. The fibres are uniform cross section along their length. The dia. of the openings lie in the range 0.1-300 mu, and can be in a number of ranges. Used for sepg. particles from solns. e.g. removing red blood corpuscles from blood. Allows a very precise cut off in narrow size band by providing a very precise size of passage.
