Simplified and robust design of the vending machine with enhanced reliability ensures easy replacement of components. The release mechanism is movable and the lockable wedge is pivoted on the carrier and linked to the push bar. The cigarette boxes (2) are in shafts (1) terminating with drawers (3) the bottom of which has a guide slot (4) for pin (5) of the push bar (6). The insertion of a coin trips the release mechanism (8) and the coin (10) passes through the checking station leading to the coin stacking shafts (1). The sensing arm (17) of a wedge (13) is below the bottom of the shaft (11) and a cam is connected to the wedge for actuating a thread cutter. This prevents pilfering by inserting a coin attached to the thread for withdrawal after the cigarette packages are withdrawn.
