<p>Privacy and security of a dial-up data communications network are provided by means of a user/terminal identification code (I.D.) together with a user/terminal primary cipher key. A list of valid I.D. and primary cipher key code pairs is maintained at the host location. I.D. and cipher key pairs, sent to the host via an anciphered line, are compared with the stored code pairs. Match-up comparison of the code pairs is made by the host before host acquisition by the terminal/user is allowed. All data put on the communications line at either end is totally encrypted to prevent unauthorized access.</p> |
