<p>1. A method of controlling the setting of a distributor of an internal combustion engine for a motor vehicle, the distributor being of the type in which the control of the point of ignition is mechanical or magnetic, including a device for advancing the ignition as a function of the speed of rotation of the engine such as using metal masses driven in rotation by the distributor shaft and subjected to the reaction of springs which act in tension, characterized in that, from an ignition signal and the speed of rotation of the engine is produced a voltage U1, being a function of the actual advance of the distributor to be controlled, which voltage is then compared with a reference voltage U3, which is a function of a reference advance, produced from the speed of rotation of the engine and the co-ordinates of two points of an advance curve of a type selected as a function of the distributor to be controlled, said comparison being visualised with the aid of signals (8) which indicate the sense of maladjustment of the actual advance with respect to the reference advance while leaving the operator freedom of manipulation to bring these two advance signals into coincidence.</p> |
