Calcined pigmentary TiO2 is obtd. by (i) mixing a solid particulate source of >=2 of Na, K, Zn, Sb and Al with water; (ii) forming the resulting mixt. into a free-flowing particulate solid; (iii) adding pre-determined amt. to hydrous TiO2; and (iv) calcining. Additive mixt. is pref. added during passage of hydrous TiO2 from final filter to calciner, e.g. via. screw conveyor. Addn. of the additives in a single, composite form reduces additive losses, improves accuracy and shortens prodn. time. |
