<p>ENDLESS CHAIN APPARATUS FOR FORMING GEARS A gear cutting machine is provided with an endless chain (10) for carrying a plurality of tools (12) into contact with one or more workpieces (14) to thereby form gear tooth configurations on the workpieces. The endless chain is pressed into firm contact with a first series of rollers (70) in the zone in which its tools make contact with a workpiece (14) to thereby prevent unwanted deflections of the endless chain and its tools relative to the workpiece. A second series of rollers (80) prevents side-to-side deflections of the endless chain (10) in the work zone. This provides full support for the endless chain in its cutting zone even though the driving elements for the chain are spaced apart in the cutting zone.</p> |
