Alloy-carrier for charging cupola furnaces consists of a cement-bonded briquette contg. the alloying components Mn and Si. The Mn-carrier is C-rich FeMn, esp. of "carburee" FeMn quality and the Si-carrier is SiC, used in proportions such that the briquettes contains: 8-40% Mn, 9-22% C, 2-9% Fe, 18-45% Si from SiC, 15-30% Portland Cement, 4-8% chemically bonded H2O, 2-7% residual components. The alloy-carriers can be used in hot blast cupolar furnaces, suppress melting losses, can be prepd. from cheap raw materials and effectively desulphurise cast iron. Oxidn. of alloying components in higher cupolar range is prevented. SiC forms a protective coating for FeMn. FeMn and SiC decompsn. starts above 1150 degrees C, released in status nascendi, causes lasting deoxidation.
|
