The laundry bag empties itself when inside a washing machine. It has at least one upward diverging lateral edge (19) which forms a double-walled flap (28, 29) folded back onto a side panel (50) of the bag. The inclined edge extends from a point which is at a distance (x) above the bottom edge (17), the straight side portion (20) over that distance being stitched (27). The inclination (alpha) of the edge relative to the bottom is greater than that of the side portion, thus producing a bag of this type requiring a minimum of material.
