Tensioner for link chains - uses chain tightener and guide, defining chain passage with projecting fingers

The tensioner has a chain tightener, turnable about an axis and with a driver. The tightener has a number of circumferential recesses and during tensioning the chain links partly engage in the recesses. A chain guide (36) moves chain links (52, 54) to the tightener (18) on the plane of its recesses (32). The tightener and the guide define a chain passage. After being turned through 90 deg., the links are forcibly moved by the tightener within the passage. The links leave the passage tangentially to the tightener. The tightener has radially projecting fingers between the recesses, which during turning of the tightener, engage in the links within the recesses.
