Automatic mattress quilting system - sews strips of strong material to inside of mats at stitching points (OE 15.1.80)

The mattress-quilting system is particularly for spring mattresses, the springs being placed between mattress blanks and covered on both sides with stitching mats. Strong strips of material such as raw linen are sewn by two seams spaced apart to the inside of the mats at the stitching point so as to form beads pulled together. The quilting thread, typically of perlon, is then pulled in two parallel runs through the blank at points spaced apart and knotted over a wool tassel. After this each end remaining is pulled through the linen strip seams before knotting again.
