The moment converter is particularly for use between an internal-combustion engine and a driven machine. It functions in place of the conventional rigid flywheel as a torsional-vibration damper, overload protection device, elastic coupling for taking up the load and automatic torque converter. The flywheel and gearbox are combined into a single epicyclic gear train whose planetary pinions have the inertia mass distributed between them. It makes use of inertia forces, so that when two rotary movements are superimposed rotation of the inertia weight takes place about two different axes.
