In its operative position flushing water penetrates the unit containing media for cleaning a water closet flush box and pan, which is sited below full flush box water level. There are several through-flow holes with an edge embracing an outlet space outside the container. This is open at the bottom. The overall flow surface area of the holes is such that only part of the water in the containers can flow out in the course of flushing. The flow area of each hole is small enough to prevent any air bubble trapped in the outlet space from escaping upwards. This system is simple and inexpensive, and prevents unnecessary use of cleaner when the flush box is not in use.
