Railroad crossties are made of cellular plastic such as high-density polyethylene, with an average specific of 15-501f/ft3. The junction-pieces fixed to the support-blocks(11,12) consist of a rigid sheet embedded in the ballast particles. The sheet section has lengthwise corrugations & several vertical corrugations. The sheet is in a vertical position when the sleeper is in place. The sheet may consist of two side panels(13,14) each of which possesses a contace surface with the side surfaces of the support-blocks. The panels have projections on them facing the blocks, which fit into the side surfaces of the blocks.
