TREATMENT OF COMPOSITION OVERFLOW GENERATED DURING EXTRUSION OF FORMED ARTICLE OF CROSSSLINKED POLYOLEFIN

PURPOSE:To enable reuse of material and prevent generation of wastes by a method wherein overflow material generated during extrusion of a cross-linkable polyolefin resin composition is crushed and pelletized, while hot, immediately after extrusion. CONSTITUTION:When extruding a cross-linkable polyolefin resin composition comprising a polyolefin resin admixed with organic peroxide(s), such as dicumyl peroxide, parkadox, or kayahexa, the overflow material is crushed and pelletized, while hot, by a crusher 4 arranged directly below a crosshead 3, and fed through a blower 7 and a transfer pipe 6 into a hopper 2 to be reused. Since the overflow material is thus crushed and pelletized immediately after coming out of an extruder, the cross-linking reaction in the material is interrupted and the material is turned into well-extrudable raw pellets.
