PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus capable of avoiding securing excessive image memories.SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes an original document width detection sensor 210 and a RAM 203. The original document width detection sensor 210 detects a length of an original document to be read in a main scan direction. The RAM 203 stores a prediction listing table 500 used for predicting a size of an original document and predicts a size of an original document to be read on the basis of the detected length of the original document to be read in the main scan direction and the prediction listing table 500.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
