A control system for construction machinery comprises: a main control valve which includes a first group of electronic proportional pressure reducing valves installed on a flow path between a hydraulic pump and actuators and outputting a secondary pressure proportional to an external pressure instruction signal to a first spool for controlling the operation of the actuator of the first group of actuators, and a second group of electronic proportional pressure reducing valves outputting secondary pressure proportional to an external pressure instruction signal to a second spool for controlling the operation of the actuator of the second group of actuators; first pressure sensors for detecting secondary pressure output from the electronic proportional pressure reducing valves of the first group; second pressure sensors for detecting secondary pressure output from the electronic proportional pressure reducing valves of the first group; and a control unit which supplies the pressure instruction signal to each of the electronic proportional pressure reducing valves in accordance with an operation signal of construction machinery, and compares the secondary pressure detected from the first and second pressure sensors with the pressure instruction signal, to determine whether the electronic proportional pressure reducing valves are functioning normally.
