<p>PURPOSE:To provide a calcareous refining agent for iron and steel which is produced by quick cooling and solidifying of raw materials after melting, consists substantially of CaO and the balance unavoidable impurites, is a non- breakable granular body having nearly a spherical shape and which has a high refining effect and slaking resistance. CONSTITUTION:Limestone, quick lime, etc. are used as raw materials. The raw materials are melted in an inclining electric furnace or the like and the furnace is tilted to drop the molten metal. A gas such as compressed air is blown from a nozzle to the dropping flow therof to blow off the molten metal and to form molten drops which are cooled and solidified quickly, thereby forming a refining agent. The resulted refining agent is spherical or nearly spherical grains wherein about <=2mm. grain sizes occupy the greater part. The surfaces thereof are relatively smooth and the granules consist of fine crystals both on its surface and in its inside. The surfaces have no crushed surfaces. This refining agent is usable for injection in refining, electroslag refining, continuous casting, etc. and since the agent has high slaking resistance, the agent is easy to store and handle.</p> |
