PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shoe upper which contributes to suppression of pronation in shoes.SOLUTION: An upper edge 1E of the heel part 1R of the upper 1 is arranged upward from the lower end of the outer ankle U, covering at least a part of the outer ankle U. In the outer face 10 of the heel part 1R of the upper 1, a penetration part H is provided which penetrates at least the outer coat 13 of the inner coat 12 and the outer coat 13 constituting the upper 1. The penetration part H is composed of at least one through hole or a notch whose periphery is completely surrounded with the outer coat 13 of the upper 1. The region in the vertical direction Y of the penetration part H contains a part or all of the part of the upper 1 from the upper end of the outer ankle U to the lowest end JE of the lower joint J of the ankle bone or to the lowest end UE of the outer ankle U. The region in the longitudinal direction X of the penetration part H contains a part or all of the part of the upper 1 from the front end JF to the rear end JB of the lower joint J of the ankle bone between the talus T and the calcaneus C.
