1505364 Two-part couplings THOMAS & BETTS CORP 22 May 1975 [25 Sept 1974] 22261/75 Heading H2E A connector for a tape-cable comprises a base 22 with contact-receiving apertures 28 extending from a first surface 24 to a second surface 26, each contact 30 comprising a portion adjacent the first surface for connection to a conductor of the tape cable and a post portion 38 adjacent the second surface for mating with a complementary contact, and a keeper 44, in the form of a plate, with apertures 46 respective to apertures 28 permanently coupled to the base member to retain and support the contacts in the apertures 28. The apertures 28 are rectangular in section and have an internal shoulder (42, Fig. 4, not shown) supporting a tab 39 on the contacts and a flared end (40) adjacent surface 26 for guiding the complementary contacts (62). The apertures 46 are circular in section, smaller in diameter than the crosssection width of the apertures 28 so that an edge portion overlies the tab 39 to prevent withdrawal of the contacts; the keeper is secured to surface 24 by, e.g. adhesive or welding. Each contact comprises two pointed arms 32, 34 which pierce the insulation of the tape cable (66) when it is installed against the surface 24 under the action of a cover 50, side arms 56 and bars 58 of which latch against bars 60 on the base. The tape cable (66) clamped between keeper 44 and cover 50 is reverse bent (Fig. 10, not shown) to overlie the cover 50 and be gripped between the cover and a strain relief 70, undercut 80 legs 76 of which fasten to latches 82.
|
