The ignition system has a 1.v. primary circuit and a h.v. secondary circuit. The secondary circuit is connected to at least spark plugs serving one combustion chamber. The spark plugs per chamber are in aprallel. Only that spark plug chamber sparks over that has the smaller resistance, i.e. the smaller distance between its electrodes. This spark plug therefore operates until its electrodes are worn sufficiently for the gap between them to be greater than the gap between the electrodes in the other plug. The other plug then takes over the function of ignition device. The advantage lies in reducing the time between servicings.
|
