Air blast valve for ore sorting - has slide valve with secondary fluid passage to balance frictional loads on gate

The valve includes a valve body (10) which is traversed by a primary fluid passage (22, 28). A slide gate (12) can open and close the passage. A chamber (30) is in the valve body on the downstream side of the gate. A secondary fluid passage (24) extends between the primary fluid passage on the upstream side of the gate and the chamber. In use the balanced fluid pressure forces acting on the gate in the primary fluid passage on the upstream side of the gate and in the chamber on the downstream side of the gate will minimise frictional loads on the gate in operation.
