Complementary colour filter stereoscopic TV - is reproduced by normal receiver viewed through colour filter spectacles

Two television cameras (2,3) side by side are directed at a scene (1) through complementary blue (8) and red (9) filters respectively. Their spacing is approx. 6.5 cm, corresponding to normal eye spacing. The two camera outputs are combined in a mixing unit (4) and either stored in any suitable medium or transmitted live (1). The transmission is reproduced by a normal TV set (6). If the viewer (15) wears spectacles (16) with complementary blue (8) and red (9) filters, he will see a stereoscopic view of the scene (1). Without spectacles he will see a normal flat view. The cameras and TV set may be colour or black and white.
