Catheters and other instruments are coated with a permanent non conductive film with PH 5-6.8 and which may contain antibiotics or antiseptics. The film could be applied by dipping or spraying during manufacture or just before application. Permanent coating prevents local inflammation and infection and provides electrical insulation when used on metalic surgical instruments.
