The furnace is partic. designed to burn solid fuels. It has adjustable shutters regulating the air flow to the firebox, and which can be set to throttle it when the furnace is in use at night. The shutter (12) fro use at night has a temp. detector (14) automatically controlling the setting so as to maintain a relatively low temp. in the firebox. It can be in the form of a flap, coupled to a bimetal body in the firebox so as to shut when the temp. in the latter rises.
