Stable solns. of tetra:azo dye for use on cotton or paper - contg. poly:alkylene glycol, water and alkanolamine

Liq. dye compsns. contain (a) 10-40 wt.% dye A-N=N-B-N=N-T-N=N-C-N=N-D (I) (A,B,C,D = opt. substd. phenyl(ene) or naphthyl(ene); T = residue of a tetrazo component) (b) 20-50 wt.% water; (c) 30-60 wt.% ether alcohol R-(Oalk)nOH (II) (R=H or 1-4C alkyl; n >=2; alk = 2-3C alkylene) and (d) 3-20 wt.% mono-, di- or tri-alkanolamine (III). Pref. (II) is di- or triethylene glycol, or their mono(m) ethyl ethers, and (III) is triethanolamine, methyldiethanolamine or diisopropanolamine. (I) are esp. used as Na, Li or alkanolamine salts and most pref. have A=D=2,4-diaminophenyl; B=C=residue of 1-hydroxynapthalene-3-sulphonic acid attached to T at 2 position and to A(D) at 7 position; and T is of formula (X) (X1=H, alkyl, alkoxy or halo; X2=H, halo; Y=H, SO3H; Z=NH, NHCo). These compsns. are stable and can be used directly for dyeing cotton or paper.
