<p>The engine has one or more cylinders (10) with external cooling ribs (14). Each cylinder is surrounded by an air flow guide sheet (18) which encloses the ribs and forms channels (22) between them through which cooling air flows tangentially round the cylinder. The sheet is supported off the cylinder by vertical plate springs (19). The sheet has air outlet openings (25, 26) on the discharge side. There is one opening in each of the channels (22) between the ribs and the openings are arranged in two vertical columns. The openings in alternate channels are in different columns. This staggers the air flow and reduces temperature uneveness.</p> |
