Continuous chipboard mfr. from batches of chips - fed by ram, loosening rear face of batch, on retraction, to promote mixing with front face of following batch

Chipboards are continuously mfd. by cyclic feeding of a batch of resin impregnated chips with a ram into a pressing duct and loosening the chips at the rear face of the compressed batch for subsequent intermixing with the front face of the following batch of chips fed by the ram. Pref. the loosening of the chips at the rear face of the batch is effected by partial vacuum induced by retraction of the ram and the partial vacuum is also used for initiation of chip feeding from the storage hopper. Intimate mixing of the chips at the interface of batches prevents formation of low bending strength at interfaces.
