<p>The propulsion system with a foldable propeller, partic. for motorised glider has a rigid blade unit (5) fixed to a hub (2) connected to the propeller shaft (1) by a hinge joint (3), the blade axis (6) being perpendicular to that of the hinge. A tension spring (8) across the hinge tends to tilt the propeller until blade- and shaft-axes (6,7) are nearly parallel, with one tip (13) resting against a (fixed or movable) stop (9). This movement can be either automatic or arbitrarily controllable, with a locking mechanism. Mass balance about the shaft axis is provided by aerofoil-shaped adjustable counter-weights (11) on the propeller-hub assembly.</p> |
