Prepn. of 3-aminoacrylonitriles of formula R1R2N-CH=C(R3)CN is 1-12C alkyl or -(CH2)n+1-cyc); comprises reacting a 3-alkoxy acrylonitrile of formula R5-O-CH=C(R3)-CN (II). R5 is opt. branched 1-12C alkenyl, an iso- or hetero cyclic mono- or polybyclear aromatic or cyclo aliphatic ring system opt. substituted, or R5 is -(CH2)p-cyc, -(CH2)p-OR111 or -(CH2-CH2-O)q-R111. R111 is opt. branched 1-12 alkyl; p = 1-5 and q = 1-4. R4 is N(R1)-CH=C(R3)-CN; R3 is H, straight chain branched or cyclic 1-20 C alkyl, opt. branched -(CH2)n-CN - (CH2)n-OR. or -(CH2)n-CH(OR)2. (I) are used in the prepn. of heterocycles such as cylosine, pyrimidines, isoxazoles, 5-aminopyrazoles. (I) can also be used in the prepn. of malonic acid dinitrile aminomethylene malonic acid nitrile, herbicides. (I) can be used as comonomers in the prepn. of polymerisation plastics.
