The pushbutton tuner has front and rear plates (14, 15) held together and spaced apart by a cross-member. The pushbuttons (12) are located on the front plate. Each pushbutton acts on sliding strip (17) extending from the front plate to the rear plate. The strips are spring loaded and coupled to a mechanism that translates their linear motion into a rotary motion. The sliding strips pass through holes in the front plate and rest in slots (14a, 15a) in the bottom edge of these holes. A positioning piece (13) is fixed to the front plate above the holes and has projections (25) that press down on the top edges of the strips, thus pressing their bottom edges into the slots.
