The pipe union is for pipes made of concrete or reinforced concrete, and is esp. for pipes with a corrosion resistant lining. Each pipe (1, 1') has a peripheral groove (3, 3') in its end face. A seal (4) of elastomer material and containing an internal reinforcing member (6) is compressed into the two grooves. Where the pipes are lined, the grooves can be adjacent to the lining, and they can taper towards their bases. Drillings can be formed in the seal end faces, allowing air to escape from the grooves as it is pressed home.
