A method and device for backlight control, related to the technical field of screen display. The method for backlight control comprises: for each display block in a screen, acquiring grayscale values of pixels in an image that needs to be displayed by the display block, where the screen comprises at least one display block (202); acquiring the minimum value among a predetermined number of maximum grayscale values on the basis of the grayscale values of the pixels (204); and, when the minimum value reaches a grayscale value threshold, controlling the grayscale values of the pixels to be kept unchanged and controlling the backlight brightness of the display block to be kept at the maximum backlight brightness (206). The method and device for backlight control solve the problem of severely affected image display effects as a result of image contrast being greatly reduced by the employment of a CABC technique to process an image when a high grayscale value pixel is present in the image. In such implementation, no CABC process is performed on an image when a high grayscale value pixel is present in the image, damages to image contrast are either prevented or mitigated, thus enhancing image quality and display effects. |
