A lengthways bar (20) hung on top of a grating over a cellar window shaft, for safety, has its top end (22) bent over, and fits against the underside of the grating (16). A securing plate (34) lies on the grating surface and extends across the shaft (10) edge recess (12), and is bolted (26) to the bar's bent end, with a bolt (28) through holes in both. The bolt's head (30) fits non-rotatably against the plate and its bottom end is secured by a nut (46) and lock-nut (48) fitting against the bent bar end. This prevents unauthorised access to the cellar shaft.
