The fast action 'instantaneous' switch is of box rotary construction and comprises a switch shaft with snap action rotor and operation tensioned spring. The switch operates using stop and riding flange surfaces on the various component parts around the shaft. The objective is to reduce the number of moving parts. The snap action rotor (3) has symmetrical inclined plane faces (3c) which form an interfacing operation combination of channels and abutments with the switch shaft (2). In the bottom of the outer housing (1), limiting segments (8) around the shaft (2) prevent excessive movement. The switch can be provided with several positions, four to eight typically, around its switching arc.
