A carton is erected by forming a blank into a tray by means of a former (49) and cooperating former bars (46, 47, etc.), the tray providing five walls of the carton, and two opposed side panels (19, 12) of the tray having respectively a flap (20) and a further panel (10) provided with side panels (13, 14). A product to be packaged may be fed to the tray through the former (49) and the flap 20 is then folded inward(y of the tray by pivoted arms, the further panel (10) is folded by a plough to form the sixth wall of the carton with the flap (20) lying against it inside the carton, adhesive is applied to the side panels (13, 14) of the further panel (10) and these panels are folded by movable plates into overlapping relationship with the other two opposed side panels (15, 16) of the tray. <IMAGE> |
