The purpose of the invention is to control the state of deterioration of the suspension of a vehicle without needing to use tests immobilising the vehicle or a non-objective assessment. For this purpose, the invention proposes to process the data supplied by at least one front camera of an on-board visual system. The control method according to the invention comprises the steps of periodically acquiring (210) images supplied by the camera(s), then storing (220, 230) the data concerning the three-dimensional road position relative to a level road and the data concerning fundamental position parameters of the trajectory of the vehicle. Minimisation (250) is then performed on the error (ΔΡ2) between the ideal values of the suspension parameters (K, C) of a chosen suspension model (240) and the values of said parameters corresponding to trajectory data (h, z, Θ) stored (235) from the position data. By iteration (260), the accuracy ε of the error (ΔΡ2) reaches a sufficient predefined value in order to diagnose (270) a state of the suspension. |
