<p>A training apparatus, especially for squash and tennis, comprises a cloth 258 or the like suspended from a suspension arrangement 180, 182. The cloth 258 hangs relatively loosely, so that it absorbs most of the kinetic energy of a ball when the latter is struck or thrown against the apparatus. The cloth 258 forms an angle with the horizontal plane so that after the ball has been intercepted by the cloth 258, it rolls or falls down at a speed which is independent of the speed with which the ball impacted the cloth.
