PURPOSE:To polish an elongated material uniformly by horizontally supporting the elongated material on a holder provided in a barrel, moving the elongated material circularly in abrasives placed in the barrel, while revolving the elongated material around its own axis. CONSTITUTION:A cover 3 is lifted with pistons 9 by operating cylinders 8, to withdraw rotary bodies 4 from a barrel 1, and a work (a) is set on each of holders 5 provided at opposite portions of the rotary bodies 4. The cylinders 8 are operated to lower the work (a) with the pistons 9 and place the work (a) in the barrel 1. The top opening of the barrel 1 is closed with the cover 3. Abrasives 2 placed in the barrel 1 are thereby pressed by a projection 11 provided on the lower surface of the cover 3, so that the abrasives 2 are brought into contact with the work (a) excellently. A drive unit 17 is then actuated to rotate a pair of rotary bodies 4 synchronously. As a result, the work (a) is rotated circularly in a peripheral portion of the interior of the barrel 1 as the work (a) revolves with the holder 5 around its own axis. Thus, the work (a) can be uniformly polished with the abrasives 2. |
